CARRON, William

004727 S. Nobbs Fressingfield 1859 Second Edition 6" x 3.5" Cloth Fine Duodecimo in sixes, pp. [i-iv] 188 (last blank, recto colophon); a fine copy in the original diaper-grain brown cloth. Fressingfield [Suffolk, England]. This is the second edition, and first English edtition, of the survivor Carron's narrative of the tragic Kennedy Expedition to Cape York. The first edition was printed in Sydney in 1849, and this edition, of exceptional rarity, appears to have been printed in Carron's native district after his return from Australia. Entirely unknown to Ferguson, Wantrup could cite it in 1986 only from a Francis Edwards catalogue entry of 1936. For some years the rebound Quaritch/ Longueville/ Davidson copy was the only one located; the present copy, sold by Hordern House in 1993, is the only copy which has been identified in the original binding. Not in Ferguson; Wantrup 144b (unseen and unlocated). $12500.00AUD
