The History of the Worthies of England

FULLER, Thomas

002772 John Fuller London 1662 First Edition Folio - over 12" - 15" tall Full-Leather Very Good The encyclopedic local history of England & Wales "Endeavoured by Thomas Fuller D.D." (1608 - 1661) and posthumously published by his son. Full antique polished calf, rebacked with the original material and later leather name-labels, gilt bands and titles. The covers are stained and the corners lightly worn, but the hollow binding is sound & tight. The pagination is famously erratic, as witness the publisher's "Address To the Reader". The present copy has 512 leaves excluding blank rear endpapers, plus the frontis engraving of the author. The later index is not present. The worn outer edges of the first 5 leaves have been rebacked, but the text is fully legible. The outer and lower edges of most leaves have been affected by the activity of bookworm, any remnants of which have been exterminated by refrigeration. Damage is confined to the outer edges, with only slight occasional affectation of the text, which is fully legible. There is extensive browning throughout. Please ask for an accurate estimate of the cost of packing, postage and insurance before ordering. $775.00AUD
